Frequently Asked Questions
(Q) I only get 2-3 calls / year for major clogs in pool lines. Where else can I use “Water Hammer” in my business?
(A) The “Water Hammer” was designed not only as a problem solver but also as a preventative maintenance tool. For instance, it has been found that a regular flushing (2-3/yr) of suction / return lines keeps the entire pool system working at top efficiency, resulting in a much cleaner pool throughout the season.
(Q) How can I increase my income with the “Water Hammer”?
(A) Using the “Water Hammer” on a regular basis insures that the entire pool system is working at its best. Pool owners are interested in getting full value of their expensive investment and are willing to pay for the “Water Hammer’s” routine use. A flushing charge of $50 - $100 is easily warranted in addition to normal service charges.
(Q) When a pool system is not working correctly what should I check before using the “Water Hammer”? (ie: pump not priming)
(A) The following should be checked:
1. Is the pool losing water? Are there any possible leaking lines?
2. Is the pump working properly? Any debris in the impeller?
3. Insure that the filter system is clean.
4. Is water level normal?
(Q) What kind of a fee can I charge for a major clog in a pool?
(A) A substantial fee ($200 - $300) is justified to remedy a serious obstruction in a pool line because of the special equipment required and the customer’s perception that it requires special expertise. What are the alternatives? An expensive excavation to access a blockage or replacing entire pool lines? Hiring scuba divers to go to the pool bottom?
(Q) What other uses does the “Water Hammer” have in relation to a pool’s plumbing system?
(A) The “Water Hammer” is recommended prior to plaster or final finish coat on all pools to ensure no rocks, dirt, or construction debris is left in the pool lines that could potentially damage or stain the new pool surface at initial start up of the pool equipment.
